Schellenberg Wittmer advised BASF on the sale of its optical brightening agent business to Catexel.

On 2 March 2026, BASF announced the successful completion of the transaction. The transaction comprises the international business, including the production of optical brightening agents at the Monthey site in Switzerland. As part of the sale, around 80 employees will transfer to Catexel.

BASF is a leading global chemical company whose core businesses comprise the segments Chemicals, Materials, Industrial Solutions and Nutrition & Care. In 2025, BASF generated sales of around €60 billion. BASF shares are traded on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (BAS) and as American Depositary Receipts (BASFY) in the United States.
